Nashville Martial Arts Teacher Takes Leadership Position in Global Organization

Chris Garland, founder of Executive Martial Arts, Promoted to Education Committee at Korea Hapkido Federation.

In a rare honor, Nashville martial arts instructor and internationally recognized Hapkido Grandmaster Chris Garland has been appointed as Vice-Director of the Education Committee of the Korea Hapkido Federation. This global organization is officially recognized by the Korean Government, and elevates Nashville as an international hub for the advancement of traditional Korean Hapkido, under the leadership of Nashville native Chris Garland.

Garland has many decades of international experience training and teaching the Korean art of Hapkido and is a natural choice to oversee the worldwide dessimination of Hapkido by KHF standards. His list of close personal mentors include Ji Han Jae, the founder of modern Hapkido; Grandmaster Kim Myung Yong, Founder of JJK Worldwide; Lee Chang Soo, headmaster of the Federation of Korean Hapkido; and Oh Se Lim, the President of the Korean Hapkido Federation, among others.

With the motto “Skillsets Dictate Leadership” as the focal point, recently Garland set out to “unify Hapkido people in the Western Hemisphere with a foundation of mutual respect for all styles or systems of Hapkido”. This mission has grown rapidly and inspired Hapkido practitioners from all over the world to come together under Garland’s leadership in both online forums and in-person workshops and seminars.

For decades, Garland has been sought out internationally as a martial arts teacher at all levels including advanced private training for law enforcement and military personnel, as the founder and head instructor of West Nashville-based Executive Martial Arts. Having been raised in the music industry as the grandson of hit songwriter and legendary bluegrass fiddle player Vassar Clements, Garland decided early on to take up the sword instead of the fiddle, and over many decades has earned the title “Music City Samurai”.

Under the leadership Chris Garland, Executive Martial Arts is now officially authorized to represent the Korean Hapkido Federation (KHF) in the USA.
